Quake II RTX Free trial version is now available for download



Nvidia's graphically updated version of the Quake II - Quake II RTX - is now available for free. Last month, the graphics card maker announced that it would reshape the game to demonstrate the ray-tracing capabilities of the eponymous RTX platform, which is found on the Nvidia GeForce 20 series.


Which enables real-time ray tracing. Nvidia called Quake II RTX as "the world's first fully tracked game". It claims its ray-tracing technology combines "all the lighting effects such as shadows, reflections, refraction and more into a single ray-tracing algorithm".


If you already own Quake II on Steam, you can now enjoy the full game as a tracked version. Or, you can grab a free Quake II RTX demo on the official Nvidia website and Steam, which gives you three levels.


To get started, head over to Nvidia.com or Steam to get the Quake II RTX. Once the download is finished, run the installer and then choose one of the two options on the welcome page: a) Free demo that gives you three levels; Or b) the full version that includes all levels.


The latter option also allows you to turn on the multiplayer deathmatch and co-op multiplayer modes with the new path tracking feature. Of course, you'll need to own the game, which currently costs Rs. 350 in India steamed. As mentioned, Nvidia and id Software announced the modified version of Quake II late last month.
