Samsung is seeking to update its Samsung Galaxy S8 / S8 Plus smartphone with the latest update. Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 are having trouble charging their phones.
The problem appears to stem from a bug in the October security patch that pushed Samsung last month. Once installed, it prevents devices from using fast charging. Normal charging still works as expected, but the lack of fast charging is frustrating owners.
Fortunately, the issue doesn't affect everyone. Samsung has slowly pushed the update out, with some regions like India not seeing a patch until mid-November. Because of this, not all owners have had the patch on their device yet. And some users who didn't get it say fast charging works fine. Samsung has yet to comment on this issue, so we don't know if a fix is coming soon or not. We had expected something like this to be corrected in a future monthly security update, but until Samsung makes a statement, we're in the dark.
This incident is clearly a black eye for Samsung. The Samsung Galaxy S8 gets pretty pedestrian battery life as it is and some now complain that it takes up to six hours to recharge their phones. We'll stay on top of this story and update for you when we have more details to share.
